Bay Area theater supergroup unites playwright, composer and shadow puppeteer
Datebook: Shadow puppeteer Larry Reed and composer Paul Dresher have known each other since 1974, when they met through the American Society for Eastern Arts, now called the Center for World Music. Reed has performed both Balinese and Javanese shadow puppetry before devising his own style, which he describes as “cinematic”; Dresher studied music, including compositions specific to shadow puppetry, in Bali for a year.
