Live Design Online: After a challenging yet highly rewarding design process, Lightswitch lit dancers as they explored the iconic architecture of San Francisco’s City Hall. Projection mapping, lighting, and rigging design were used to achieve a temporary visual intervention, striving to tackle how the narrative of classical architecture can be decolonized in civic spaces.

This article was really impressive. I am sure this would've been a really cool show to see. The way they described the light interacting with the dancers and the architecture sounds beautiful. This also sounds like a very impressive feat. With a show so heavy focused on movement, and having such a short time to put it together, it would be a very intense schedule. They only had two days to tech it, with one dress rehearsal. The team also had to load out each night and reset in the mornings, taking even more time away. But when teams work well together, they can get hard things done. I'm sure it took a lot of planning to schedule out how to make this come together, as well as figuring out the ebst way to combine the lighting and projection mapping for this show.
I love the idea of this performance, in that the actors are truly interacting with the architecture by flying around through it. That is so interactive and fun, and such a great metaphor for how to make architecture more inclusive and take away the original contexts in which it might have been built. While I love lighting design, doing projection design for this production would be incredible. It is almost like you are painting on the walls in a way that lighting can't quite articulate. I guess it is just lighting except with very elaborate LED gobos (aka projectors?) If I was going to do VMD, I would begin my design process by taking pictures of the space and then drawing over them in a digital program to get my ideas out, much like they did in this showcase.
