The Book of Mormon Will Celebrate Milestone Performance on Broadway in November
Playbill: The Broadway production of The Book of Mormon—winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical—will celebrate its 5,000th performance at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre November 4 at 7 PM.
The hit production is the longest-running show in the 99-year history of the O'Neill (a distinction the production has carried since 2019) as well as the 12th longest-running Broadway show of all time.

You know I’ve never actually seen The Book of Mormon but I have won the tickets via the lottery at least 10 different times, I have just never been home when I have won. The Book of Mormon began it’s broadway run in 20ll, and won nine Tony’s that year, and even one best musical. They are about to mark a huge new milestone which is that they are about to hit 5,000 runs of the show on November 4th of this year. The Book of Mormon is the 12th longest running broadway show and is the longest show in 99 years in the O'Neill theatre, which is where the show lives. They have a huge cast and production team, and I have only heard good things about the show. I have heard that it is super funny so I really hope to see it soon, whenever I can.
To be honest it is news to me that the Book of Mormon is even still on broadway. With so many musicals causing relatively quietly in New York and me only being 7 when the Book of Mormon opened I assumed that the show closed almost a decade ago. It is wild to me that people can have decades long carriers working on one show such as Wicked or the Lion King and it seems the Book of Mormon has joined the ranks of career defining shows for many artist as it hits it 5000 performance. I am curious what makes this show a success in comparison to many of the other contemporary musical that run for a couple months or years and the Book of Mormon does not stand out as particularly exceptional to me. Perhaps if I ever get the chance to see the show my opinions will change but it is curious to see a show still thriving so long after it started its New york run.
