Connelly Theater Suspends Operations After Church Landlord Takes Issue With Productions
www.broadwayworld.com: The Connelly Theater, located in New York City's East Village, is shutting down after the building's landlord, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, has taken issue with productions begin produced there. According to the New York Times, the church has been looking more deeply into the rented shows being presented at the venue, with three productions being forced to relocate.

Oh, this headline made me worried. The theater and the church has always had a little bit of a relationship. but the gossip in this article is unmatched. The fact that the theaters productions have known that the landlord was a religious entity, and this partnership is going on for a while, and yet the amount of things that have been approved is what’s changed, is quite interesting. But I was not ready for the reasoning! Sabrina Carpenter and all her recent glory filming in a Catholic Church and the repercussions falling on a priest being stripped of his duties wild. So so it does make sense that other art in churches would potentially be more careful. However, is this Theatre in a church? Or is it just owned by a church? And why is the church the landlord? I just have a lot of questions about why there’s a theater that is owned by a church. It is truly devastating that the impact of this means that the theater won’t be able to be operational anymore. It’s devastating for a (Theatre) staple to no longer be able to work and create its art. And if the church doesn’t think that the shows being put on in there are worthy of approval, maybe they should make their own shows. I would wonder what type of shows they would want to put on.
