Casa Bonita Cast and Crew Members Unionize With Actors' Equity, IATSE

www.hollywoodreporter.com: The restaurant, based in Lakewood, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, recently reopened after being bought out of bankruptcy by Parker and Stone. The restaurant features cliff divers, actors, puppeteers, magicians and more as part of the dining experience, supported by crewmembers.

I haven’t heard of Casa Bonita until now, but I am glad for them unionizing as their work sounds very similar to any other performance and tech work that would be under IATSE. With the amount of safety concerns in the restaurant I am glad they were able to get some of them addressed through their refusal to work in, for instance the carbon monoxide room, but am glad they are pushing for the safety measures to be sealed in a contract so that it is made sure to never happen again, and if it does that the workers are protected in that contract. On a more general scale I hope more establishments that have ties to any kind of performance are protected with their safety set in stone and first priority the number of worker safety stories, especially in places that aren’t normally thought of as performance is a lot that I’ve heard and I hope that this measure does reduce at least one workplace from safety hazards.
