This article greatly reminded me of a trend in our society of disposable items. Wear furniture isn’t made to last decades, but just a couple years. and a lot of the trades are dying because we live in a society where we can’t afford well crafted materials, even if they are a good investment. So what it means is we live in a society of disposable items. Cheaply made, cheap is broken. Consider jewelry, metal working, clothing items. It’s rather difficult to find something that will last a lifetime that you can actually afford. What it means is you sort of throw away the first part of your life, savings sort of renting materials until you have enough saved up to make those good investment purchases. Repair shops are one of the businesses that are truly dying out. Because we simply can’t afford to be repairing things right now. And the thought is devastating
