Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Warriors' Album: How Gamergate Inspired It
www.billboard.com: From In the Heights to Hamilton, New York City – with its frenetic pulse and intoxicating contradictions – has been an intrinsic part of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s artistic palette. Even so, the EGT-winning musical mastermind is likely to confound more than a few fans with his and Eisa Davis’ new project: Warriors, a narrative concept album based on the 1979 cult film The Warriors.

I have been a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work since Hamilton debuted on Broadway. I heard about the release of The Warriors a few weeks ago, but I have not been able to sit down and dedicate a chunk of time to listening to the album. Before reading this article I was completely unaware of the story behind the album, but I was already interested because it was co-written by Miranda. Now that I understand the story a little bit, I am even more intrigued by it. The idea of female led gangs being the main characters is an interesting concept that I don’t think I have seen in any other project. There are so many nuances that could feasibly be included because of the change, topics that could be touched on, and subplots that could be added. I’m excited to listen to The Warriors once I have the time, and experience Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new work.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is just such an inspiration with how he tackles his work and the creativity that flows from him. The thing I find most inspiring about Miranda’s work is how much work is put into his music. He really takes the time to research and learn about stories and uses his skills to tell the stories that don’t always get the spotlight. I think it’s so fascinating that this album is based on a Greek narrative from 400 B.C. He creates so much opportunity for himself and others. This album, even though it was packed with some of the most famous rappers in the world, also showcased less-known artists like Kim Dracula, Stephen Sanchez and more, since the album encapsulated so many genres of music. The pride that these people have for New York City is really heartwarming and is yet another testament to take every chance to share passion.
