Yay! The Jimmys! I remember the first time I heard what the Jimmys was was in high school theatre class. The opportunity that the Jimmys provides to students is so spectacular, and is an amazing goal to work towards as a high school student. My school participated in our regional awards that lead to the Jimmys, the Applause Awards in Orlando/ Central Florida. There are so many people from my school that aspired to get to the Jimmys, and there were 2 students in my time that ended up going, one of which is on Broadway! So many CMU students have made it to the Jimmys (and now, won them,) and the opportunity seems absolutely amazing. Although non-performers are not eligible to move up after winning a regional level award, we were exposed to scholarships and awards for our shows by area. In my time in high school, I was lucky enough to earn a few awards and I remember the immense joy and pride that I felt by getting recognized for my work, and the motivation it gave me to work even harder and continue to push myself.

Woo!! Yay!! The Jimmy’s are so so cool and I think they provide a great opportunity for young artists across the nation to showcase their talents. I also think that the awards really encourage and motivate these young actors to be the best they can and to push themselves, and force themselves to think outside of the box. I am from New Jersey, and our regional level of awards is the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards, hosted annually in June by the Paper Mill Playhouse. They are one of the few regional theaters that do not send students to compete at the Jimmy Awards which is very unfortunate. However, throughout my time in high school, I was lucky though to receive a couple of awards for myself. Regardless, I am thrilled that the Jimmy’s are returning to the Minskoff Theater. I also did not know that the Pittsburgh CLO helped in founded the awards. Very cool and exciting things happening soon for sure!
