Best Music Venues in the US: Epic Concert Venues to See a Show Right Now
Thrillist: There’s no greater feeling of together-as-one unity than being in a packed venue singing along to your favorite artist—and surely your town has a club, theater, or stadium that’s fair to call the best in the area. But sometimes you want to up the ante and travel to a venue that’s special for both an audience and an artist: steeped in history, surrounded by beauty, or embedded in a community known for its live music scene.

As someone who loves concerts and frequently sees them both in Pittsburgh and around the US I was fascinated to read about some of the amazing venues that artist can perform in. Some of these venues like red rocks amphitheater and the sphere I was familiar with going into this article but, there are so many incredible venues that I had no idea existed including many stunning amphitheatres that incorporates local nature into the architecture of the space. Touring shows fascinate me because all of these spaces are so different but the same artist can put on the same performance in all of these venues as they tour around the US. I am endlessly curious how an artist can host a tour that performs both in the sphere and in an amphitheater in Colorado. Over the course of my 20's I hope I get to visit more of these incredible venues and see how artists interact with their surroundings.
Two great concert venues that will unfortunately never be on one of these lists again are the Los Angeles Sports Arena and the Irvine Meadows Ampetheatre, which both closed only months apart in 2016. I am just old enough to remember them, and in fact I was at one of the last concerts in both spaces. The last few concerts at the Los Angeles Sports Arena were played by Bruce Springsteen, who referred to the venue as “the dump that jumps.” He was right, that arena was fantastic for concerts, with unusual and fun acoustics and a somehow a feeling that everyone in attendance was connected even though it sat 16, 740 people. I was eleven when it closed and, even though the memory is distant, I remember how electrifying that venue was. Likewise, not long before the Irvine Meadows Ampetheatre closed, I got to see the final performance of the LA Phil at that venue. I can’t say I remember what they played, but I do remember it as one of the most beautiful concerts I have ever been to – both the music and the venue.
Wow!! All of these venues are so cool. I though Madison Square Garden was cool but clearly I have been living under a rock. I have heard of the sphere before, and it is so cool as long as you do not get sick easily. There is a venue in Tennessee called The Caverns which also look super cool, it is in a cave!! I love music so, so much. Being able to listen to incredible music and interact with these unique spaces would be an incredible experience. The Stony Pony is super cool, not just because of the venue but also because it is located in the wonderful New Jersey. Love Jersey. The Waikiki Shell in Hawaii is also so super cool. Matt Rife and Incubus have both recently played and performed at this venue in Honolulu. Out of all of these venues, I think that the Sphere in Las Vegas, and The Caverns are the two spots that I would want to visit the most for a concert.
