Costume design is such an essential part of film storytelling, and the list of people nominated for these awards really show the diversity of approaches that costume designers use when going into this creative process. For our most recent project with Susan for basic design, my group had decided to make a costume to depict this idea of inclusivity and diversity while using line and form, and trust me when I say I could never do what one of these costume designers does; it is truly a feat. A lot of shows in the theater scene don't just have these gorgeous clothes; they also heavily play into the characters and the overall plot line of the story. Each of these designers does a really phenomenal job of using costume design not just as an accessory to the plot but as this crucial layer of character development, which is what makes them so much more memorable.
