The Importance of Community for Playwrights
HowlRound Theatre Commons: There is no theatre without the playwright. It is our duty to confront the blank page and create the story that will be handed over the producer, director, cast, crew, and audience. With the recent strikes, closings of theatres, the resignations, the restructuring, the reorganizing, the budget cuts, the challenges of the pandemic, and all the increases in the cost of living, artists are working hard to find new processes of making and disseminating their work.

Within any profession and or outlet it is very important to have peers to be around/ have as a support system. Community is a necessity for most humans and people who want to grow. This especially goes for a creative field. To see and experience other kinds of art is very important for inspiration and to grow as an artist. Copying is actually how most great artists will start out. Of course developing style and individuality is super important but to get techniques and the point of art is to push someone and let them stare at something. Hand craft is also something super important and unique about theater. Artistic touch is something not to be taken for granted nowadays with more artificial intelligence coming in and obstructing the artistic view. In theater, inspiration is key because there are so many aspecting and elements going on and to see another collabortive team can give a sense of direction and to see what you would change. Theater is all about adaptation.
