Cirque du Soleil Announces: Songblazers – A Journey Into Country Music
www.cirquefascination.com: Cirque du Soleil and Universal Music Group Nashville are excited to present Songblazers, an innovative country-themed show written and directed by Amy Tinkham. This dynamic theatrical production pays tribute to the legendary and modern trailblazers of country music. Charting the journey of two main characters as they forge their own path to country recognition, Songblazers promises an unforgettable experience for audiences. Songblazers premieres July 2024 in Nashville and, today, Cirque du Soleil announces seven additional U.S. cities.

I was surprised but also not when I saw this title. I have to say, as I feel many would, that when I think of Cirque de Soleil I don’t immediately think of country. However they are artists who love to explore and dive into new areas, as well as surprise people, so in some ways Cirque going to country music makes a lot of sense. As it says that it’s a tribute to big country singers, it kind of reminds me of the Beatles show that they did (though I unfortunately have not seen that) and how they payed tribute to them in a Cirque show, so they definitely have a footing as an organization in the art of making circus relate to big artists and singers, and so are probably more prepared to move further and expand to county music artists. It interests me, as in the Cirque shows I’ve seen the singers sing this ethereal music that’s kind of otherworldly sometimes, it might be a shock to experience them singing country music, though I’m sure quite fun as well.
This title immediately caught my interest because of how bizarre this seems to me. Recently there has been a rise in country music, with Beyonce’s new album put out, it’s interesting to me to see that country has once again taken on a new form and flavor. The fact that Cirque is putting on a production that pays homage to the history of the country music industry is an interesting one. I’m not surprised that its tour starts in Nashville and then will travel to other southern states of them being Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, and many more. These states are some of the few that have the desired audiences because states located in the north are less likely to listen to country music. However, I think Cirque should broaden its audiences by traveling not just to southern states. It’s interesting that they now have two new shows in the works, this one and then the one that’s going to be permanent in Hawaii. Cirque is making some big changes to find new audiences and continue to grow their fan base. I’ll be interested to see where this Cirque show goes and how it progresses in the United States.
I am so interested in this article. Typically, when I think of Cirque du Soleil I don’t think of country or country music. At all. Whatsoever. I also have never been to a Cirque show. The closest I’ve been is when a few SoD students took a trip to meet the stage management team of the Cirque show that was touring and came to PPG arena. But watching some Cirque performances online and seeing the style of show they typically put on, the on Ice theme for the show that just came through Pittsburgh was so on brand for them. So I am very interested in seeing how the theme of country and country music is gonna come up in the theme of the performance. I think the scenic design could be SO cool for this production. There is so much for the theme of country that the designer could play with.
Okay this one gave me a giggle. I think that cirque is one of those companies that is ever evolving and I think that the growth that they have had in the past couple of years has been amazing for the company and the performers. This theme, however, was not the next step I thought for them. When I think of a classic circus I think of in the middle of a field with animals and performers; the opposite of cirque. However, I think that the country theme might bring a new audience into cirque that might not have been interested in the company and what they present. I think that cirque is opening their perfoemances up to a genre that could honeslty be very fun ot watch. Cirque has always been a company that is so extremelly innovated that their audeinces are always coming back for more when the ravelling tours are in town or if people ar ein places where they are stationed.
Cirque du Soleil shows are so unique. I remember when I saw my first Circ Show 2 years ago, and it was an unforgettable experience. I saw Drawn to Life at Disney Springs located in Orlando, Florida, and immediately started to think about when I was going to be able to see it again. I'm not going to lie, country music was definitely not what I was expecting to see for a Cirque performance. It does make me think of the success of Beyonce's new album, maybe Cirque trying to take a page out of her book. The description of the show seems interesting, as I never imagined acrobatic performances would be accompanied by Beloved Country Tunes. It is sure to be a shocking performance, and I can't wait to see articles roll into the news blog as previews begin. it surprises me that Florida is not on the list of US cities as they love their country music and also wildly entertaining theatrical performances.
This certainly is an interesting iteration of Cirque De Soleil. While I’m sure it will be a fun spectacle to watch, I’m curious to how it relates to circus traditions of Cirque de Soleil. Perhaps it doesn’t, and that would be ok too. I know country music pretty real, and have heard of Hank Williams, but didn’t know his grandson as a musician. If this works out, it honestly would be a fun aesthetic to watch. I can imagine myself taking my Texas ranch raised grandmother and her being able to see a piece of art she really enjoyed (thus far I’ve struck out with the exploratory immersive theatre I’ve taken her too). Perhaps I will! I view Cirque to be in an interesting place with branding. It seems more commercialized with each attraction and show and hope the quality of the spectacle and notoriety of Cirque will not be lost with this shows addition.
