This is a very common issue among live performances. It immediately makes me think of the gifts and flowers that get thrown onto ice rinks after a performance. Although the throwing of the gifts is very kind, and has become a tradition, they still provide a hazard for anyone on the ice. As an extremely popular star, it must be nerve-racking to have an unknown object flying onstage. I would assume her security also had a tense moment of worrying about a possible bomb threat. I appreciate that she paused the concert to speak to the fans and express worries about not only herself and her performance, but the safety of the dancers on stage with her. Her same decision to cancel a show due to rain with concern towards not just herself but her dancers and crew (especially as a star who notoriously loves rainy shows) shows her compassion to everyone working around her. Having a star as large as Taylor Swift enforce boundaries for herself and her team is a wonderful model for people everywhere, especially in entertainment.

There are really some crazy fans out there. Some people lack some kind of filter/ respect for others. Some people are just excited and expressing it in throwing stuff on the stage of their favorite artist, this may be the main reason for throwing stuff however, it is at least clear to me why this is wrong. To view a celebrity as a person is something unnatural to do. Celebrities are supposed to be our ‘idols’ but does this title really express what they are correct? How should we view celebrities, they have to be idolized in a way, and although this isn't a good thing to do, it puts unhealthy pressure on these people who at one point were just like us. For me, celebrities should be recognized and respected for their talents– not their images. Someone like Taylor Swift is insanely talented and has produced hit album after hit album, she should be put on a pedestal for this, not for her looks or persona although those things all affect her fame.

I saw the video of Taylor saying this in either Tiktok or Instagram so I had some familiarity with it which is why I clicked on it. I actually was kinda curious what other people were saying about it. I totally support Taylor in saying this and applauded her for doing so. I know I have friends who disagree with me but I have never understood why people feel like they have the right to throw things at a human being. I get that people have presents and they want to give them to her but it puts so many peoples safety at risk. I think that more artists should be saying this so that more people realize that they think throwing things on stage is very scary from the performers point of view. If I were Taylor I would freak out if random people were throwing things at me. My hope is that because Taylor has such a large fan base that maybe her statement will catch more audience members attention.

I personally do not consider myself to be a Swiftie, but I was drawn to this article because three of my best friends are major Taylor Swift fans and will not stop talking about her and the Eras Tour. I also was interested in this article because Sabrina Carpenter is currently the opening act of the Eras Tour! She is my absolute favorite singer, so I keep up with what she is doing, including traveling with Taylor Swift. She brought up a very important issue during the Buenos Aires show. Fans throwing things on stage is absolutely a big issue in the entertainment world. As Taylor Swift said, it could potentially cause an accident on stage. It could totally get in the way of a dancer and put them in harm. It could accidentally hit one of the performers directly, and maybe even have the potential of damaging equipment on stage. I feel like fans forget that celebrities are real people too and do not respect their boundaries.

I feel like we have been hearing more about this type of thing happening and more so about the performers complaining about it. I’ve never understood why people throw things, or at least the heavy things, or their own phones. That is bizarre. When performers experience objects being thrown at them during performances, it can have various impacts on both the artists and the overall atmosphere. The safety of the performers becomes a primary concern. Depending on the size and type of objects thrown, there is a risk of injury to the artists or others on stage, like a phone for example. Objects thrown on stage can disrupt the flow of the performance. The distraction may affect the artists' concentration, choreography, and even the overall quality of the show. How an artist reacts to objects being thrown can vary but it is clear that Taylor Swift is uncomfortable with it. I hope that swifties at the very least can respect her wishes, if they can’t do it no fandom can.

People need to remember that no matter how nice a gesture is, it can still cross a line. I’m glad that Ms. Swift actually stopped to say something to her fans because, as she said, loose debris on stage can be quite dangerous. I think some people don’t realize the different dangers of things being thrown on stage. For example, like Ms. Swift said, it could be a tripping hazard, not to mention the chance that it could hit a performer in the first place. Another thing that I have seen other performers talk about is that things being thrown on stage, especially violently thrown, can be quite disorienting and concerning. Now I know these people truly have the best intentions in mind, however good intentions can lead to dangerous actions. We've all read stories about overzealous fans doing things they definitely shouldn’t and finding out the hard way that there are limits that should not be crossed.

This is SUCH an issue in the live entertainment world. Like, to the point where it can be dangerous to the performer! I am a huge concert person and It's not fun to see things thrown at someone who is there for their fans and just trying to give us a good time. Last year, I saw Harry Styles in concert (best day of my entire life), and the AMOUNT of things that were thrown, hats, signs, shirts, flowers, was concerning. Or, I recently saw The Driver Era as they came to CMU through Activites Board, and I absolutely loved the concert! I got there super super early and ended up getting barricade! There were a couple girls in who were standing a few feet away from us, and one of them threw their bra on stage. Needless to say, concert etiquette slowly being thrown out the window, and It’s so sad to see that.

I am typically pretty up to date when it comes to news about different unique things happening at the different Era’s tour concerts but I actually haven’t heard about this, probably because I haven’t been on the internet very much this past week. However, with the second leg of the tour starting I feel like a lot has gone wrong. I was surprised that there wasn’t an article about the heat in Brazil. A fan literally died during the concert. One performance was cancelled and I have seen videos of Taylor barely managing to stay conscious while performing due to the heat. I can see why Taylor is doing an important thing and communicating with her audience to ensure that nothing is being thrown on stage. If things are on stage there are major tripping hazards as well as the risk that something inappropriate is thrown. With all of the other obstacles that the Era’s tour team has to deal with throwing things onstage is something that could be easily remedied.
