Making the magic in Disney's World of Frozen

www.themeparkinsider.com: When designers put pen to paper - or, more likely these days, cursor to screen - to start creating a new attraction, they begin a journey in which each step helps determine the direction of the next. Sometimes, the result is a dead end. At other times, you make progress - only to see your final destination slipping further away. But sometimes, you and your team make choices that eventually come together to create something magical.

A lot of the articles I have read about the new Frozen attraction in Hong Kong just focus on its amenities so I was really excited to read this article because it showcases the decisions behind the attraction. I found it really interesting what they did with the castle, ensuring that it's important but doesn't outshine the main castle. I find the idea of forced perspective so interesting and it was so interesting to see how they achieved a result using it. I also enjoyed reading about how they incorporated color into the world. I found it interesting that all of the movies revolved around different color stories and how they used that to come up with a more muted palette. I also found it smart how they incorporated so much functionality into the ride's look. It's so important to think about functionality but with the flawless aesthetic of Disney I shouldn’t be surprised.

As I know I've mentioned before in previous posts, I love the opportunity to read or see behind the scenes walkthroughs or talks. Throughout my life I have always wondered the why, and love to understand the why. Why was that choice made? Why was it done that way specifically when this could have been done? Etc. So behind the scenes tours are perfect for me. Hearing about the New World of Frozen directly from the Imagineers is very interesting as they provided many of the whys. I was very interested to learn that the Arendelle Castle is set off to the side of the city instead of being central to it as depicted in the Frozen Films. This decision was made less for the world of Frozen and more for the park as a whole. The article also discussed the immersive Frozen Ever After Indoor Boat Ride and the improvements and adjustments made to it from its EPCOT Versions. I also enjoyed reading about the color scheme of the whole world and learning the design choices that went along with it. Overall I enjoyed reading the article and found it very informative.
