I have always found racing in cities curious, whether it be like F1 in Vegas or the recent NASCAR race in downtown Chicago. While this does provide more publicity and using new landmarks like the Sphere generates more headlines, I feel like racing in cities can cause more headache than the event is worth. There has to be so much planning and clearances from local officials and organizations given, alongside the fact that many people will be more bothered by the traffic caused. I remember when NASCAR came to Chicago, I was moving out of my apartment and had to speed up my timeline of moving out because the roads by me were all closing. I do these kinds of events are fun and can sometimes bring a city together, especially when it's partnered with a new landmark like the Sphere. I'm curious to see how this turns out and whether it is a success or a flop.

As a huge Formula 1 fan, and not a huge Sphere fan, and someone with generally mixed feelings about the Las Vegas Grand Prix in general, I honestly thought in a lot of ways, the Sphere complimented the racetrack pretty well. I think that while the Sphere doesn’t fit with the desert environment aesthetic and somehow looks ugly and stands out and looks out of place as a as a massive glowing thing in a city of massive glowing things, next to the massive glowing thing of a nighttime racetrack, it looks pretty cool. More specifically, it looked pretty cool when there were things related to the race projected on it. I watched the race last night (or this morning depending on how you look at it. Not the most fun that a “United States home Grand Prix!” started at 1am for anybody on the East Coast) and the sphere would have a yellow flag projected on it if there was a yellow flag out, or the text “safety car” running around the bottom if that was happening. The entire thing was a massive checkered flag during the final lap. I thought that was fun, but I hated when they had advertisements on it. I feel like there’s already enough space for sponsors at F1 races, and it would be more fun and look cooler if the sphere was dedicated to the race happening. But hey, that was far from the most concerning event from the entire race weekend.

This was such an interesting read. I have to admit I was surprised when. I first read the title, as I didn’t think that the sphere would be involved with much other than projections on it’s surface, and concerts held within. I never would’ve thought of it participating in an F1 race and broadcast, though that would definitely be interesting to watch. The sphere has been getting a lot of media coverage it seems recently, and so it makes sense that many people would want to be involved in it’s ‘firsts’ throughout it’s opening as to gain a broader audience. I wonder if the F1 track will interfere with the surrounding area of Vegas, and how they chose to build it based on the space allowed. Also I wonder if the sphere itself is distracting to racers, who have to see it’s lights while driving? Overall it’s a really interesting concept, so I’m interested to see how the Sphere+F1 collaboration pans out.

First of all, I cannot literally imagine a better combination than that of an F1 race next to and around some of the coolest performance technology to date. The idea of fast cars, at the peak of their technology alongside, the sphere the peak of its technology will probably make for a spectacular combination of performance and race. I think the Grand Prix is cool enough but I think it is held in Las Vegas along with the new era of technology the sphere brings will make for a really interesting setting for the race to take place. I would be really curious to see the budget for the designs that are going to be taking place on the sphere. I mean, I really doubt that F1 or the Sphere would cut corners for an event like this and I just can’t imagine the budget for the visual designers. Genuinely so curious to see how it turns out, and even though I do not follow F1 that much I will be really interested to see the designs.
