Disney Set to Launch ‘Frozen Land’ at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

The Hollywood Reporter: A full decade after the Walt Disney Co.’s musical animation Frozen became a worldwide box-office phenomenon — and the enduring soundtrack to the lives of parents with little kids everywhere — the very first theme park attraction dedicated to the film is set to open its doors Monday at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

I was taken aback by the first sentence of the article – I didn’t realise Frozen came out 10 years ago! It literally feels like it came out 5 years ago. After the opening of ‘Frozen Land’ in Hong Kong Disneyland earlier this month, I’ve seen many posts about the new section in the park. Apart from recounting their joyful experiences in the park, many shared the lengthy wait times and the costly ticket prices. As the article says, HK Disneyland was severely impacted by the conflict in 2019, and with the pandemic that hit early 2020, it has not been able to receive guests from outside of HK for more than 3 years now. With the travel restrictions and other policies lifted, I think it was a perfect time for HK Disneyland to open its new section and use it as a huge attraction to welcome more guests. Alongside Disney’s 100-year celebration, I think guests will be drawn to the excitement and freshness of the newly launched experiences.

While Frozen is not my favorite Disney series I am excited to hear about Frozen world being installed in Disney Hong Kong World. Disney is such a magical place for me mainly due to the fact that I have so many good memories from my childhood there. I remember actually going to Disney World the year the first Frozen movie was released and meeting the characters before the movie even came out. So, hearing about this immersive experience is exciting to me. I love immersing myself in the world of characters and truly seeing their world come to life. Disney especially is usually very good at this but they also tend to spare no expense when it comes to a new installation. It is said to contain places like Elsa’s Ice Palace, Friendship Fountain, Clock Tower, North Tower, and Arendelle Castle. Along with other flagship attractions. Overall, I am excited to see the new park come to life in Hong Kong.

I’m so glad to be reading about Disney adding more to their already amazing park! While HK Disney wouldn’t be the first park I’ll be visiting, it is definitely high up on the list because it is pretty convenient for me to go! I really enjoy seeing how Disney develops these themes into actual rides and attractions, from film to real life is really cool! Especially because a lot of elements aren’t explicitly stated in the films, and Disney has to develop the attraction to fit the film, but add more that still fits the film. I also can’t believe that its been 10 years since Frozen came out! I still remember watching it in the gym with my 3rd grade class, and absolutely loving it! I always love seeing Disney further develop these movies to release a second one, such as with Frozen 2, and the improvements in animation is so obvious, and I am really proud and happy that Disney is always improving!

I absolutely love this! Honestly, I am a huge disney fan (more so Disney’s older works), and this is so cool! I've only been to the two Disney parks in FL and CA, and I acknowledge that I'm privileged enough to have gone to both of these parks! But, I've always wanted to go to the parks in paris, and now, the park in Hong Kong! It's insane that the films came out a DECADE ago. i remember being in elementary school when they came out and all of us being absolutely OBSESSED with the movie. This past summer, I worked at a children's summer theater, and we did a production of Frozen jr, which i music directed! Since then, I've been extra obsessed with the show and personally, I'm waiting for Frozen 2 to become a stage production. The attractions that are going to be put in this little world sound absolutely incredible, and reminds me a LOT of the Harry Potter attractions you can find at Disney!

This is a really interesting read, it was fascinating learning about the parks renovations, as well as how the park has had ‘headwinds’ over the past few years. I know Epcot in Florida has a Frozen ride, and I remember the last time I was there when I was younger the ride’s line was so unbelievably long, as everyone wanted to go on it seemingly. So it’s cool that they’re devoting a whole ‘land’ to Frozen in the Hong Kong park. It’s crazy to me how long it’s been since Frozen came out. Even though I was a kid when it came out, it still feels like one of the ‘newer’ Disney films to me, having grown up on all the original/‘classic’ Disney movies from the pre and early 2000s. It’s insane to think about this whole new group of kids for whom Frozen, Moana, as well as even newer films like Encanto, are their ‘classic’ Disney films that have been around since before they were born. I’m sure this new exhibit would be super exciting for them! I’d love to read more about the imagineering process behind creating this aspect of the park, and what details they chose to include.

I would totally go to this. Frozen is one of the best Disney movies in my humble opinion. The songs, characters as well as the animation all are top tier. The sisterhood message of the movie also speaks to me, being one with a sister. It is such a fun movie and I can see why they would make a Land for the movie. I remember seeing the movie twice in theaters and after it moved to Amazon probably another few times as well. Its winter wonderland fun just doesn't get old to a 10 year old girl. I can imagine different elements of this immersive park. They could have an Olaf snowman who gives hugs, a ride that plays let it go that leads up a ‘snowy mountain,’ or even an Arendelle -like town that just gives off Frozen vibes. Anyway I would go to this, if I somehow end up in Hong Kong someday.

While I am not the biggest Disney land park, one thing I have always loved is how the parks take you into an entirely different world. It is honestly impressive to think about the older I get, to see the amount of design and honestly the pure amount of money that goes into these parks. It is impressive and it's achieved on a colossal scale that isn’t really done anywhere else. I would be really interested to see pictures of this new park because the new parks that Disney opens up seem to be more cohesive, like an entire land dedicated to a world they previously made in a movie. I really like how the newer parks are cohesive and they can immerse you more into the world. I think it's really cool that Disney can afford to do this on such a huge scale. I think a lot of time Disney gets written off because it is “just Disney” but if you really sit and stare at the projects they can achieve and actively do year after year it's impressive.

I Love this article! I have never, and plan never, to consider myself a disney adult, but I have to appreciate the incredible technical elements and visual appeal that they provide. I am a large fan of Frozen and the thought of being able to be immersed in Arendelle fills me with joy! Also their timing could not be more perfect with the release of Frozen 3 also happening this week. I know that they planned it to be this way but still it is lovely to see excellent coordination between departments that you don’t always see. I told myself many years ago that I would never travel anywhere purely for the purpose of going to Disney, however, if I happen to find myself in Hong Kong, I will definitely be paying a visit. Immersive theatre is the thing I love most so it is no surprise that I love being immersed in an entire environment.
