consequence.net: Quite literally, nothing was the same “As It Was” when Harry Styles took the stage to perform at the 2023 Grammys over the weekend; a few of his background dancers revealed that their giant spinning platform began rotating in the wrong direction while they were on live TV, throwing off their entire choreography.

I saw several of these videos on social media, and it was unfortunate to hear about for sure. Huge props to all of the performers for being able to continue their performance and make it look professional. It is a live performance which of course means there is always a possibility that something could go wrong. To me at least it felt as if some of the videos posted online made it sound like this was absolutely awful and horrible and while I agree that it should have never happened, especially at the Grammys, but again it IS a live performance using technology. I also immediately wondered what the consequences were for those that were responsible for the turntable, somebody is at fault and I just wondered what happened to that individual for this project. I hope that something like this does not happen again or for a long time, but Harry did a great job handling it.
I saw this all over my social media pages and were it not for those videos and articles I would have never known the turntable malfunctioned. I believe the dancers and Harry did a great job adapting to the situation and were very professional about it. I know the individuals working backstage and specifically on Harrys set were probably freaking out as well and I would like to here from them how they felt as well. Their are so many things that could go wrong during a live performance and this just serves as an example that as a professional you must be able to adapt to situations such as this one. Based on the article and other sources I have seen the dancers and Harry did not seem massively upset about the occurrence and rather just used that moment to showcase how well they can fix and adjust to malfunctions.
Imagine that moment of panic when you realize that you are going the wrong way and have no control over it and no way to ask what to do, especially with a whole group of dancers that need to be in sync! Talk about creative problem-solving on the fly. I want to see a statement from the tech team about what went wrong. I cannot imagine that it would be easy to mess up, especially if it were teched right and done right in dress. But, alas, such is the world of live performance; things go wrong no matter how careful you are. Harry Styles is also an experienced performer, so it is no surprise he handled it like a champ. He presents as a very "go with the flow" type of guy. However, for some of those dancers, this may have been their first large public show ever. I would have panicked; I guess that's why I stay backstage. At least they got a great story out of it!
