Weems, co-founder and artistic director of New York-based multi-dimensional theater company The Builders Association, is used to pushing the envelope with her ground-breaking work at the intersection of technology, media, and theater arts.

This is such an interesting angle on the theater and AI debate that is occurring. This idea of a Future Stages class focused on an exploration of what might be to come in the theatrical and live entertainments industries is so cool (and incredibly important in my opinion). Exposing students to what might be to come in the industry (at least what we can currently foresee) seems like it’d be an interesting and important class to take. These shows and labs seem really interesting as well - using AI to get a recognizable but unique set of dialogue from a source in order to drive performance is a new idea but an interesting one. When using the generator in the way described in the article, I think it’d be a cool performance to attend. There’s so much potential with this technology and these mindsets around innovation and AI (and, to be fair, many concerns), and I’m excited to see where they go.
