‘Rust’ Shooting Charges Downgraded for Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed — 5-Year Sentence Now Off the Table

Last week I read the first article surrounding Alec Baldwin and the fatal shooting that occurred in the rehearsal space for “Rust”. When looking at the situation from the design world, it truly is upsetting to hear about a real gun making it onto a show’s set, let alone a loaded weapon that ends up hurting an actor. Personally, I find that it is somewhat hard to put the blame on Baldwin in this case; he is not the armorer, and likely had no hand in the gun's arrival on set. However, it is really interesting to consider whether or not the armorer is at fault here; because we do not publicly know how the gun made it on set. It is however upsetting to see yet another case where the legal system benefits the wealthy by allowing Baldwin to obtain an attorney that is able to scare the prosecutors into downgrading the charges.
