A Coral Necklace Should be Pretty Quick to Make. . . Right??

The Sewing Goatherd: Coral necklaces were fashionable in the late18th and early 19th century, so one would be something I could wear with multiple history ensembles, not just the Felicity outfits I’m slowly (very slowly) making.

I didn’t know what a coral necklace was when I stumbled on this article, but I do recognize it after the explanation. As soon as the writer said Felicity, I knew immediately that they were talking about the American Girl Doll. Nothing like AGDs to inform one about historical fashion. This totally reminds me of lanyards, which I actually miss making–it’s easily been five years. The little latex strands that you would knot into cool formations. Anyway, the tediousness of this task feels similar to lanyards - something you could easily get done in a day if you’re focusing, but definitely something you could get tired of and leave on a shelf for a while. Same idea goes for friendship bracelets. I’m curious if when these were originally made in the late 18th century they had a more refined process for it beyond hand-knotting, especially if they were very popular. I would imagine that there must’ve been some way to produce them quicker than 1 per day.

I wish this girl all the best in her American Girl Doll cosplaying endeavors. If there is one group of people that can get it done it is cosplayers and they will make it accurate if it kills them. This necklace is cute! I think I would wear it. It doesn't seem hard to make or all that time consuming so maybe if I get bored this will be a path I go down. It is humorous to learn that the whole process took her a year to complete. A phenomenon I understand far too well. Starting a project only to learn that you don't really have enough time for it can be really frustrating. She kept with it though, and now she has a gorgeous bracelet and necklace set to show for it AND she gets to dress up as an American Girl Doll. Wins for her all around really. I find myself drawn to these blog type posts because of how relatable they are. It is just one person trying their best and sharing the story of how they did the thing. I find that much easier to follow than a big article that doesn't have the same heart.
