Why David Hockney's Bigger and Closer is an important step forward for immersive art shows

theconversation.com: Artist David Hockney has ridden many technological waves. While his mark-making has remained resolutely painterly, he has challenged the practice of painting. He was an early adopter of computer-assisted drawing, using the iPad and iPhone.

I adore how this article truly understands the timelessness of good thoughtful pieces. Ingenuity never ages if done well. The first artifact is named the “Panpiper Vessel” tied to the Chimú kingdom. A kingdom that predates the Incan empire as well as overlaps it’s beginning. The figure is shown holding an instrument similar to the zampoña, a popular instrument in the Andean region up to this day. Musical instruments and portrayals of musicians in Andean artifact excavations are reportedly common. This is likely due to the culture’s appreciation for music. Which is supported by the reports that musical instruments like the zampoña were used for ceremonial purposes. Thoughtfulness is important to me because it is an important part of being kind and making sure you know what you’re talking about. Making sure you know what you are talking about allows you to engage in a productive conversation. And productive conversations are a way that can push forward meaningful change.
