I really liked how this article broke down some simple tips for mixing! It was a good refresher for an audio engineering class I took last year. Most of the information I was comfortable with- I already make sub-mixes/buses, organize my tracks (i love color coding) and leave headroom in my tracks. I’ve never used presets before, but it might be something to try out.
I appreciated that they mentioned panning! It's something I can overlook in the mixing process, especially if I’m mixing on my old Macbook with wired earbuds, or worse, out the computer’s speakers. I also used to only mix tracks that had been recorded by my professor. I didn’t have the equipment to record well, and I only knew how to play guitar and sing, which only allowed me to record some simple Joni Mitchell songs. Now that I’m recording my own covers, doubling and hard panning tracks is definitely something I’ll try! I can imagine how it will fill out an acoustic guitar sound.
