Museum of Broadway Brims With Memories and Moments, Then and Now

onstagepittsburgh.com: My return to New York after more than three long years away was a three-day, four-show whirlwind (reviews to come) that had to include time for the newest member of the Big Apple theater community: The Museum of Broadway. The showcase that opened in November covers four floors and 26,000 square feet with memorabilia, displays and immersive experiences, referencing hundreds of individual productions.

I am DESPERATE to go to the Broadway Museum. Especially because of the plethora of design histories that I feel like isn’t displayed as much. This is a tad of a tangent, but there’s a documentary that was made about the 2012 Annie revival, and within it, it actually goes into decent detail about the set and costume design process. I’m realizing that was maybe one of my first exposures to the art of theatre design. I still love that documentary. The point is, I could spend all day looking at the original models. I remember there was literally a model of the entire Gershwin theater that was made. I’m just tickled by the elements they’re showing—Bialystock’s office is a delightful addition. I am a big fan of the photo-ops included in the museum for sure. Also—the CRYSTAL ILLUSION??? OH MY GOD? That is mind-bogglingly stunning. Following the history of Broadway and being immersed in it sounds so fun and informative.
