What to Expect at... Young People's Theatre
Insider Intel - Intermission: Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is Canada’s largest and oldest professional theatre for young people. The company produces and presents a full season of theatre and arts education programming, serving approximately 150,000 patrons annually. Since 1966, YPT has staged many of the most important plays that form the canon of work for youth in our country.

Young People's Theater Company in Canada reminds me greatly of The Metro Theater company which is a theater company that I grew up with in St.Louis. Exposing kids to theater that is targeted for them at a young age is an integral part of arts entertainment and education. Having theater companies that are aimed to attract young audiences created in today's theatrical world where many professional plays are not appropriate for young audiences it is even more important to have a space carved out for high quality children's theater. Even though children's theater is a relatively new concept in the scheme of theater, having a space carved out for childrens theater provides not only more opportunities in the theater industry but also more of an opportunity for interdisciplinary art and collaborations such as interactive theater and theatrical therapies. Having a space for children to be kids in the theater is intigril when it comes to raising the next generation of artists.
