Okay first of all, I have never and frankly never intend to see LaLa Land. The most familiarity I have with the movie is listening to Another day of Sun in my 7th grade drama class. That being said, I am both excited and nervous for this musical to come to the stage. I personally do not like Pasek and Paul's work in Dear Evan Hansen and the Greatest Showman, however I do need to acknowledge the effects that their work has had on the theater industry and making theater more accessible to a wider audience. I feel though that this stage adaptation is too late very simply no one cares about La La Land anymore. That movie to me seemed more like a phase that theater kids went through rather than a cult classic that still has a following such as Carrie or Heathers. I am hopeful however that this musical may act as another entry point to the theater industry.

La La Land, a film about acting in film and performing live music, has finally come full circle. First, it started as a movie; check off the film box. Then it was in concert; check off the live music box. And now, it is coming to the stage; live music and acting; what else could you ask for? When I first saw La La Land, I hated it. I did not like how the story ended with them going in different directions. However, as I got older, I learned to love how bittersweet it was, and now many of my favorite plays have a similar bittersweet sentiment to them. I am excited to experience it on stage because I will get to go through that whole range of emotions again, as if I am seeing the movie for the first time. La La Land also has so many theatrical moments that will be so exciting to see live. I cannot wait to see how they do it all technically.
