Gary Clark Jr. kicks off a new era for an iconic Las Vegas concert venue
Las Vegas Weekly: As great as Gary Clark Jr. is—a mesmerizing live performer with four Grammys and a magnetically soulful style that blends genres—his concert in Las Vegas this week is much bigger than one show from one artist.
It’s the grand opening of the Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the first real glimpse at some strategic renovations at a storied music venue.

The fact that we could ever have concerts in large venues again seemed impossible up until a few months ago. The fact that performers can walk on stages again is a feat in itself, but to have a theater open, or in this case re-open under new leadership, after all that has happened is certainly a miracle. Thousands of concerts had to be canceled when the pandemic hit, and many of them are just now being rescheduled. Countless tickets got refunded to those who believed the concerts might never happen, but luckily a lot of artists are now back out on the road. Though they are back out on the road, many of them are taking a great deal of caution with the concertgoers. Harry Styles, for example, is requiring everyone at the door to show proof of vaccination or have a negative COVID test. As close as we are to “getting back to normal”, there will always be a little reminder of the toll that COVID took/is still currently taking.
