I do not know a whole lot about Audio Visual systems but just reading through this was very interesting. This seems to be a huge innovation and will certainly help this resort stand out against the rest of them in Las Vegas. Even hearing the huge amounts of money that went into facilitating this vision I wouldn’t be too nervous if I were an investor or owner. This type of attraction and accommodation within an already luxurious resort will have them making money hand over foot. This does have interesting implications for resorts and even just hotels in general in the future. Will this become the norm as the technology becomes more readily available or will this remain one of the only places to utilize it? Hell, what does this mean for theatre or even just orchestras? Live music in general? I think that this is technology that the emerging huge VMD departments at theatres will find incredibly interesting and fulfilling to work with.
Las Vegas never fails to amaze me. Growing up in Los Angeles, my family vacations always ended up in Las Vegas, and I loved the place so much! It is an entire city dedicated to entertainment, and the technology and the innovation of it all truly shines. The sheer size of the audio system is honestly beyond me. I wonder how such a system of this capacity can help in the world of entertainment. Perhaps it makes sense that the more sophisticated systems like these get, the easier it can become to install and have smaller scale audio systems- requiring less specialized equipment and skills. That actually raises an interesting dynamic. On one hand, it can create less jobs for those working audio, however it will create more jobs for engineers and technicians to work these large and advanced sound systems. I think Las Vegas, especially in my generation, is a place that is often overlooked as a capital of entertainment, but I feel like as a place built specifically for entertainment, it is a strong contender.
This is a really incredible project that I would be really interested in seeing more about. I think it would be really beneficial to see some paperwork, system diagrams, or draftings to see how this all came together. It is a bit tough to decipher what’s going on just in words, so I think some graphical representation of this system would be so amazing to look at. The scale of this project is totally insane. I can’t believe some of the stuff that I see come out of Vegas. I think this system is totally fascinating. Signal can be directed anywhere in the resort from anywhere in the resort and it can all be managed with a single ethernet cable and their endpoints. This seems ideal for a resort of this magnitude and actually sounds like it’ll end up saving quite a bit of money for them. The use of Power Over Ethernet is also super cool. PoE is such powerful technology that I think will really explode.
Wow. This is some incredible infrastructure that could enable a lot of possibilities. It sounds like it will mostly be used to make standard tasks and processes easier, which is perfectly valid, but I really hope they take the opportunity to commission some creative projects to start building something in this massive playground that could enable sound or video installation art on a massive scale. Because that scale just doesn’t exist elsewhere in the audio and video worlds. Scale, as an artistic element, has mostly been limited to ‘more’ or ‘smaller’ for audio and video art, you don’t see things like the giant rubber duck in the river in an equivalent form for sound and video, mostly because it’s prohibitively expensive. But a 100k square foot video wall is a platform so big that it creates possibilities. The fact that something like that exists, and that it exists already integrated with thousands of access points and other presentation platforms is a golden opportunity for them to bring in artists and let them create something that’s never been done before.
