A tale of two cities: Sydney shows prepare to reopen as Melbourne theatres remain mothballed
Stage | The Guardian: Major shows including Hamilton and Come from Away are poised to reopen in Sydney when the state of NSW’s 70% double dose vaccination target is reached in October, but more stringent requirements in Melbourne mean the road to recovery in the Australian performing arts sector is likely to be a bumpy one.

Oh look, another article about Australia! It is interesting to read about these two productions in particular. Both stories have American. I get that Australia is seen as very similar to the United States (culture-wise) but the history and meaning behind the shows probably have very different impacts on audience members. I think that both of these productions will do well in Australia but I don’t think that audience members will react in the same way as American audiences. I've never thought about being on a creative team for an international touring company. There are so many things to think about when adapting a production for a different audience! With the impacts of COVID, I would love to see how the demographics of audience members have changed. I did like their note on the barriers of small crowds (low ticket sales and revenues) for large productions. This has been a big question that I have had for the past few months, how are live events (with limited capacities) able to generate enough revenue to pay for productions. I get that productions are getting smaller but how will the industry tackle the rebuild?
