I think that it's really great to see international productions of Broadway shows reopening. I honestly thought that Australian theaters would reopen before those in the US because of their rapid control of the COVID-19 virus. However, I'm glad to see that it is happening. This also makes me excited for the possibility of international and national tours starting back up as well. Though it might take more time for international and national tours to come back en mass because of the complexities of travel and being unable to contain a company within a single controlled 'bubble' of people like I think most regional companies are doing at the moment. I do think that this is a step in the right direction for more things to be coming back with vaccinations becoming more and more accessible to the world and to kids now as well.
I wonder, how well do these American history stories translate to an international audience? I saw Hamilton a few years ago (crazy to think about how long some shows run) and I would love to see it overseas to see the difference between productions. This is my second post this week about Australia, I really want to visit someday! It is much nicer to read about theaters opening back up over reading about how everything was shutting down. It's amazing to realize how much changes in a year and how fast things turn around. I wish that we were reading about this production (through rose-colored glasses) without the haze of covid (lol I smelled haze for the first time in a while and it hit me how much has changed because of the pandemic) Anyway, it is lovely to see things opening back up. I wish that I could go see this production, but if I went to Sydney I would have to pay to quarantine in a hotel for 2 weeks before I could see the show.
