This festival looks like a blast, full of lovely concerts that I would be thrilled to see. However, there is an element of danger to it now. I am slightly hesitant about all the immense celebrations of reopenings that are going on across the country these days. I think the country was so stressed about scheduling their reopening sales and celebrations that they waited to put them on the calendar until we reached that strange little pocket of time when vaccines were roaring and the cases were going down, but now that we have come upon the dates they set, the landscape has changed again. Delta and Lambda loom like shadows on the horizon and America’s worrisome vaccination rates are turning heads and adding a sharp edge to these celebrations. I hope that the policies put in place are strong enough to stop the spread, but now a problem is emerging where unvaccinated people are begging to be included despite the policies.
