Potential IATSE strike could affect TV, film production
NewscastStudio: West coast television and film productions could be heavily affected if IATSE, a union that represents thousands of behind the scenes workers, votes to strike.

IATSE’s negotiations with AMPTP are really important to me as someone planning on going into this industry (of course). What really makes me mad is the fact that crews do not get their cut of streaming revenues even though the production company reaps so many benefits from streaming. A strike would not be uncalled for considering how poorly production staff have been treated coming out of a pandemic that crushed the industry. Especially with the rise of streaming movies as they come out in theatres, crews should reap those benefits. What also annoys me is the pay gap between producers and the trades. While management is important, the fact that workers in production trades are forced to fight for job and financial stability while producers stand on their high horse is enough to cause a strike. I hope that IATSE is not forced to strike and AMPTP will succumb to their requests, but realistically this will come to group action before justice is served to production workers.
