This year's Tony’s really excited me. I feel like as a student in theater, it is very easy to go through the motions of the work. We can get lost in the individual stresses, and lose sight of these big communities that we have. In the end theater was built from the love of a feeling of community storytelling. That means we are driven by the need to speak and listen to each other, and to take in each other’s perspectives. I really felt this connection to the industry that I haven’t before. It seemed to be very poignant for everyone this year especially because we missed the theater so much. But of course, we can’t help but notice the abundance of white, male, winners and nominations this year. Of course this is a big improvement from the first years of the Tony’s but still not enough. I really enjoyed how some of the winners were able to employ their platforms to discusses meaningful topics and organizations, very inspiring.
