Janelle Monae Fan Told Accessible Seating Is First-Come First-Serve
www.ticketnews.com: A Janelle Monae fan with a serious back condition bought a ticket to an upcoming show last year, making sure that she would be able to secure a seat. However, now, the venue claims that seats are “first-come, first-serve.”

I think that it is terrible and unfair that concerts are not providing accessibility options or enough seating. I think that they should have a way to ensure disabled people who require seating are allowed to get the seating they need, whether that be some form when buying the ticket, or a place to buy accessible seats. I think that in general, the theater world has a lack of accessability. This is in terms of not only audience, but also the actors and designers who are cast. Just this year, the first actress in a wheel chair got a Tony, and while it’s amazing that she won, it shouldn’t have taken this long. The author Olivia Perreault noted that even in cases where concerts provide accessability tickets, people are sometimes separated from their companions or given seats that are worse than what they paid for. It is important that people planning these concerts or performances keep in mind the disabled audience and provide necessary accessible features.
