James Shoberg stages an updated Winnie the Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins
Theater | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: James Shoberg's darkly comic Winnie the Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins was first produced by his company, The Rage of the Stage Players, in 2013. The group has produced similarly adventurous programming since then — notably the ambitious adaptation of the vampire classic Fright Night last year — but the overwhelming success of Pooh was always fresh in the minds of its fans and the company. So Shoberg decided to bring it back this summer, running July 12-27 at McKeesport Little Theater.

Winnie the Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins sound like a fantastic production and I wish I was able to go see it. This show seems definitely not appropriate for children due to its edgy humor. Nonetheless there are political and social justice issues that are addressed that pertain to those who feel "misunderstood" in todays society.
Essentially the show is about one of the characters from Winnie the Pooh dealing with one of the seven deadly sins (alcoholism, gluttony, etc.). I think that this is definitely a fun twist on this story however it should definitely be made clear to those attending that it is not the same Winnie the Pooh as seen on TV.
I honestly feel we do not have enough edgy humor in theater today and I am glad that theater has become as diverse as it is. I hope that this production was as successful as the writer intended.
