Resort Producer RWS Eyes Broadway With Theatrical Development Unit

Variety: Long Island City may be a quick subway jaunt from Midtown Manhattan, but for a lot of New York’s Broadway-centric theater industry, it feels about as far away as Long Beach, Calif. That’ll change, if RWS Entertainment Group has anything to say about it.

I recently saw on playbill a internship posting from RWS and I had not heard of the company before. I looked into the company and I did not get the sense of this huge raising status. After reading this article though I am very interested in seeing how this company grows. I have not heard of an entertainment group buying out a well-known Broadway casting office. The way they have the organization structured they will have little expenses which I think will have a huge impact on new works. If a producer starts to create companies of this nature, I think there will be a huge change in Broadway. Every aspect of the show will be owned by the company. This can be good and bad. The good part is that more free lancers will be able to get a salary job, the bad part is that creativity could be stifled and artists work will not be their own. I wonder if RWS will grow.
