Feld Entertainment and Universal Partner on Jurassic World Arena Tour

InPark Magazine: Feld Entertainment Inc. and Universal Brand Development have announced a blockbuster live-touring show inspired by one of the biggest franchises in cinematic history, Jurassic World. Feld will concept, produce and tour the multi-year arena show, which is scheduled to launch fall 2019 in the United States and will continue globally, featuring a herd of life-size dinosaurs extending up to 40-feet long.

I am a little surprised how soon Feld has taken on a new brand. For those who don’t know feld bought the right to several marvel characters and the rights to write new marvel store lines. That was about 3 years ago. Last year they bought the Sesame Street brand from V corp.. While they did just close the Ringling Brothers Cirques last year but with the lunch of two new brands I would think they would try to perfect the two brands before taking on a new one. Marvel, in my opinion, didn’t do so well in ticket sales and I have gotten videos of basically empty arenas at their shows. I think that shows problem was advertising, or the lack there of. When ever I ask people around me if they have herd of any of the shows feld dose, all they can recall is Disney On Ice and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey cirques. I will be even more surprised if they can get the word out about this now show of Jurassic World. That being said, I would be interested in how the show comes out, and if they finally get descent writers and designers. They are going to have to move slightly away from their family friendly company mission and target the groups that will actually come out and want to see the brand names they want to put out.

I’m not exactly sure what an arena tour of Jurassic World would look like, but I think attempts like this have been made before. I think there was a company out of Australia or New Zealand that made a show with life size dinosaurs. The article doesn’t say a lot about how these dinosaurs are going to be made. Projection mapping surroundings is a great way to make the audience feel like they’re in the action, but I wonder how they’re going to accomplish that in an arena. Is the show going to be presented in more of a “proscenium” style or are they trying to encompass the entire arena, which I think would be difficult. As long as tickets aren’t outrageously expensive, I’d go see it.
