Articles like this have become increasingly more and more frustrating and disheartening for the entertainment industry. While there was only so much to be done about the accused until the accusers came forward, situations like this where, as stated in the article, “according to the report, the board of the institution had been made aware of the behavior for years. However, leaders of the institution call the claim "misleading." This tells me that the theatrical board heads knew that Edelstein was being sexual inappropriate and assaulting colleagues this whole time, and still turned their noses away and pretended they did not know. There were 24 interviews with current and former employees; it is unbelievable that the head staff of the theatre did absolutely nothing about this. Even if they only heard one case, that should have been enough for them. The former director of Long Wharf Theatre is quoted in the article, says “the theatre is complicit in this behavior,” which I think describes every situation we have run into in our industry when the administrative staff sits by and tolerates disgusting behavior like this. Pretending you know nothing is equally as abhorrent as the person who commits the act to begin with.
