Drury Lane’s reimagined, diva-narrated ‘Dreamcoat’ celebrates musical theatre’s many dreams
www.chicagolandmusicaltheatre.com: Led by Director Alan Souza, whose vision made Drury’s 2014 Camelot spectacularly unforgettable, this Joseph moves from a distant land and time to a hotel room overlooking the strip in the entertainment capital of the world today. The well-known Genesis story of Joseph and his brothers is told via the handsome, wholesome dreaming traveler (played by Evan Alexander Smith), with brothers and scantily-clad Vegas showgirls popping out of every imaginable drawer or door.

It seems like Drury Lane Theatre presentation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a really well done new presentation on something that some would consider dated. I appreciate the appearance of a feminine spin on a story that is about main male characters. The photos within the article are colorful, I love the one with a selfie stick. I’ve always loved seeing the modern twist of old musicals. The costumes also look like Peter Pan’s neverland boys and the amount of eyeliner I can see makes me assume that this presentation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is being represented in a VERY different light than it has been in the past. The article also talks about the talent that is on the Drury Lane Theatre stage and it seems as though there is a good amount of talent that is accompany the beautiful looking tech that is represented in the photos that accompany this article.
