Trump Announces Kennedy Center Closure Due to 'Renovations'
www.ticketnews.com: The President said the venue will officially close on July 4, 2026, noting that the center has spent a year consulting with contractors, musical experts, art institutions, and other advisers and consultants to decide whether or not the venue will close and reopen or move forward with partial construction while still holding performances. Trump noted that “if temporarily closed for Construction, Revitalization, and Complete Rebuilding,” the venue “can be, without question, the finest Performing Arts Facility of its kind, anywhere in the World.”

I really just wonder if Trump has any ability to not fall for a gambling bias at any point in his life. He needs to stop going full speed ahead when everyone is screaming to stop, but he's such a narcissistic asshole that he doesn't care what is happening in our country, as long as his name is on buildings and his stock prices are going up. The Kennedy Center is such a valuable resource and has been home to important performances, and the mark twain award (a personal favorite of mine) and now Trump is shutting it down, and there is probably a chance it will never reopen. Leaders that try to control the arts often spiral into dictators, and I understand that's his goal, but why can’t he just leave our silly little theatre industry alone? I do appreciate that at no point have I heard anyone calling it the trump and kennedy center though.
This is really disappointing to hear, and it’s quite suspicious on the timing of it. Right now we are heading to a time where human emotions are needing to be shown, and theatre is the best way to do that. The timeframe he gave is doing renovations until just before his term ends, which is odd as renovations typically do not take that long. Recently, we have seen a massive push from artists to basically boycott the Kennedy Center due to Trump’s leadership and changes made to it, and I do have to agree with them. As I mentioned in previous news comments, I find it quite awful and questionable that trump is doing it. Art is supposed to be part of free speech, and trump having his hand blocking it is quite disturbing, and I believe it should never have occurred. Kennedy should continue to be independent and not have presidents shutting it down.
I hate that this is happening because I highly doubt that that lying, rich, egostistical, narcissistic fascist will reopen the Kennedy Center. It’ll close for “renovations” and then come a few months later or so he’ll make some excuse that we don’t have the funds to continue renovation or that the project isn’t important anymore or whatever and then it’ll be permanently gone. Just another way to shut down another place where art could continue to be created as a form of protest towards him. He’s trying to silence people because he wants control and he wants everyone to just follow along with him and bend to his every beck and call and kiss his ass. And the most disappointing part is many people do. I can’t stand those people. They continue to boost his confidence and ego, which he doesn’t need anymore of, and it’s going to send us all crashing into the ground. It already has.
If the chairman of the theater is a fascist dictator no good performance can come out of the theater. No heartwarming, comforting, truly moving experience can come from a place dictated by Trump. “Rennovations” are such a cheap excuse to halt productions and throw around more money in a pointless way while people are starving. Moves like this heighten the access barrier to seeing performance art, which is already pretty strong in the US. Smart people with community are a threat. This is a deliberate attempt to keep people from seeing shows, to keep shows from being performed, to remove the community space entirely. Not to blatantly say that it won’t get renovated and this was an excuse to stop the flow of production, but does anyone see a white house ballroom in DC? That’s what I thought. This is not a renovation, this is a stab at our industry.
