SoundGirls Online Mentoring for Recording Arts
SoundGirls.org: SoundGirls is excited to offer three online mentoring sessions with Jasmine Mills, to be held via Zoom as part of our mentoring program. These sessions will take place once per month over three months and will focus on recording arts with space for questions, discussion, and career guidance in a small-group setting.

This is such a great program for a multitude of reasons. To start, it makes sound more accessible to everyone. Having gone to a public high school that did not prioritize theatre, there was so much I wish to have learned and so much that I could have benefited from if I had had a mentor. I definitely see how this could be a great resource for people looking to learn more about sound design that might not have the resources to otherwise. This is also, as the banner suggests, an opportunity to empower women in stem. This program provides them a safe space to learn and develop their craft, without the outside agency of others. Though I am quite early in my career, I have only ever worked with a female sound designer once. When trying to convince my friends to be mic technicians for my high school, many of them were apprehensive about working with a team of all men. Representation is much more important than we realize, and a program like this will really help support the next generation of sound engineers and designers.
