I am absolutely in agreement with this article - it’s always been the little things, the little interactions, that matter and add up to contribute to societal mental health. It’s important that the public arts acknowledge this, give they are community spaces designed for many kinds of interactions (as hubs, havens, and hangouts, as the article classifies) for many different people. The question of how people are using the space is vital to consider on a variety of levels - how is the space designed? How can the space adapt to accessibility needs? How does the space need to be maintained? To encourage the little moments in life is a very powerful thing. Everyday connection, even if it’s not a deeper one, is vital to modern happiness and well-being, especially now that so much interaction takes place through screens and the digital realm. The public arts remind us that the little moments are where life lives - like Moments in the Woods.
