Martha Graham Took Classic Ballet and Turned It Into Modern Dance. It’s Still Moving Us 100 Years Later

www.smithsonianmag.com: This past fall, in a sunlit studio in Manhattan’s West village, the Martha Graham Dance Company was rehearsing a production of Cave of the Heart, a fiery one-act ballet created in 1946.

Dance is such an interesting art form to me, and was some of the first shows that I've ever done. I love the freedom people have with dance. They don't have to follow the rules even though it seems like an art form that has very many. Dance styles like ballet have so many rules, but the best dancers and choreographers know how to break them and make something better. This mix of classic ballet into modern dance seems so interesting and I love all of the photos in this article. They're so dynamic and the visuals are just really interesting on top of the costumes adding so much to the story. I really love this style. I wish at Carnegie we could have more dance performances because it truly is something that is so emotional and freeing without even having to speak a single word. I can really feel the emotions of every single performer in all of these pictures.
