IATSE: As we observe Black History Month, we reaffirm a simple truth: Black history is American history! The story of our nation and of the labor movement cannot be told without the contributions, sacrifices, and leadership of Black workers who fought to expand opportunity, dignity, and democracy for all.

I do think it's very important for unions to release statements during awareness months to show that they are true to their mission statements, so I'm glad IATSE puts out a statement for black history month every year, I think consistency is really important when it comes to this even if you have already put out your support and your views. It's important to continue that chain of statements for a variety of reasons, one such reason being how cultural climates change as time moves forward. Marginalized groups seem to face additional struggles year after year so its important to show continued support in the face of new challenges being presented which i feel like is especially the case in the last few months. Unions educating people and sharing history is a great means of information spreading and I like that the statement encourages people to actively do so as well.
