In August, a first-of-its-kind, three-day outdoor Broadway celebration will head north of the city, transforming Kingston’s historic Hutton Brickyards into a destination for musical theatre fans. Running August 14–16, The Festival reimagines Broadway as a full-scale festival experience, blending big voices, beloved songs and scenic Hudson Valley surroundings.

I am beyond excited for this three-day outdoor celebration of Broadway andI want to know where to get tickets right now! I loveWhen musical Theatre gets these festivals or these conventions where musical theater lovers can come together and enjoy a whole weekend filled with Musical theater. I always see ads and conventions for things like film festivals or cartoon festivals or conventions, and it is rareThat there is one for musical theater, so I'm so excited for this festival to happen! Not only will this weekend highlight many of the amazing voices and faces, but this festival will also get the chance to highlight the 30th anniversary of rent which is so amazing, and I'm so excited to see what they do for this anniversary! Also, to hear that there will also be master classes and workshops is so amazing and is so wonderful that this company is bringing forwardEducation to the streets of New York and straight to the people!

When I first read the title of this article, I imagined a massive outdoor music festival like coachella or gov. Ball or lollapalooza except its broadway shows and show tunes, and it sounds like thats exactly what this is! I think this is smart marketing wise - outdoor music festivals are so popular and such a zeitgeist that people will spend thousands on weekend tickets and then even more on accommodations, food, and merch. These festivals also employ hundreds to thousands of people and stimulate the economy in the area, albeit for a short period of time. For this genre though, I’m a little confused about why people would want to see this medley of musical theater songs out of context of the shows they are originally from. It feels like it would be like watching youtube clips of bootlegs live, which I could see being appealing for some people but it feels weird to me.

The concept of a musical theater based music festival sounds really interesting and cool. I’ve been to a few music festivals and they were pretty cool, but I’m not sure exactly what to expect from a different format where it’s kind of all created around musical theater. I think also one of the cool things about theater is that it’s more about how the performers are embodying characters and telling the story, but in the format of a musical theater related music festival, it seems like it could become more about seeing famous performers. It also seems like they are taking a lot of aspects of conventions like comic-con, and sort of merging that into this festival but I think that could be cool. Overall I’m curious to see how this goes, and how they market it I think will be telling as to what the goals of this festival actually are.
