Did Jujutsu Kaisen Animators Quit? Explained
The Mary Sue: After being overworked and abysmally paid, it looks like the animators who are working on the hit series Jujutsu Kaisen are calling it quits. This wasn’t an unexpected turn of events given MAPPA’s reputation among anime fans as a “sweatshop” and their history of mistreating and silencing workers.

This was really sad to read. I love MAPPA. They do amazing work. Their animations are gorgeous and groundbreaking. It is so sad for me to hear that they are overworking their animators. All that beauty that they are able to create would not be possible without their artists. When they took on Attack on Titan and Chainsaw man I was really excited because those are some of my favorite stories. I think they did an amazing job with them, but at what cost. The fact that JJK 0 was completed in just 4 months is crazy. That movie looks like it should’ve taken years. It’s so sad to hear how these artist’s are being abused but I’m really happy to hear that they are speaking up. I’m happy that we are now creating a culture, with the multiple strikes this year, where artists feel as though they deserve to be valued. For too long artists have been overlooked and overused. I also thought it was really funny that the animators animated the MAPPA building being destroyed. At least they can keep a sense of humor through all of this.
Personally, I am not very into anime and manga. However, many of my friends and family members are, including my older brother. This is the reason why I have read the first couple manga of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and I am familiar with the characters and plot line. Even though it is very different from the type of books that I like to read, I actually enjoyed it thoroughly. I have never watched the show, but my brother has always had positive reviews of it. It was really unfortunate to learn that the animators on the show are being overworked greatly by The Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association. It was very jarring to hear that the animators have been compared to workers in a sweatshop. It seems that this animation company has a history of treating employees unfairly and hopefully, by the main animators on a hit TV show quitting, it will incentivize them to change these inequitable practices.
