Datebook: A decade ago, Michael Socrates Moran and William Hodgson convinced most of their theater grad school cohort to drive from UC San Diego to the Bay Area to build a festival of plays from scratch. With a bunch of Laney College students they’d recruited to join them, the crew would rehearse in the clubhouse at Moran’s mom’s town-house complex in El Cerrito and perform at nontraditional venues such as the Tilden Park merry-go-round, where Moran once worked.
