Sound Devices Scorpio and 888 Become the First-Ever Portable Mixer-Recorders with Built-In Cloud Technology

Creative COW: Sound Devices is proud to announce that the Scorpio and 888 mixer-recorders can now upload directly to Frame.io’s new subscription Camera to Cloud (C2C) system – making them the first-ever portable mixer-recorders with this groundbreaking feature. The Scorpio and 888 upload to C2C using an Ethernet port in the back of the unit. Because uploading occurs in the background, sound professionals can continue to record audio while simultaneously backing up their files to the cloud or delivering to post-production.

I am not entirely sure how much this will affect workflow currently, but it's a really interesting option and may be a breakthrough moving forward. Some innovations like this that might really shake up a current workflow are often slow to be adopted, since many people can get really set in their own ways and processes of creation. Frame.io is something I've started using lately, since I've been collaborating on editing the video for Lunar Gala this year. It's a really slick way of sharing files, and I know I haven't even scratched the surface with the features it has available. With the new upload to cloud immediately function detailed in the article, I'm wondering if it's a continual upload, ie as you're recording, it's simultaneously uploading to the cloud so you could almost listen along to the upload as it's being recorded? Or whenever the recording stops it immediately begins upload. Not sure if either would make too much of a difference.
