San Francisco rolls out a guaranteed income program giving artists $1,000 a month
Datebook: More than 100 San Francisco artists will be guaranteed $1,000 a month for six months under a pilot program set to launch in May, following similar efforts by Stockton, Oakland and Marin County to support struggling residents during the pandemic.

My mom used to work with an organization that helped cities work towards having guaranteed income programs, and the results of their research and studies were quite profound. It had a huge impact on people's ability to be creative because they had more time to do activities just for themselves. It enables people to not have to worry about basic necessities such as food or rent and be able to focus that energy elsewhere. I think that it is so wonderful San Francisco is launching this pilot program for under-represented artists. I am really excited to see the artists that are selected as part of this program and the work they create. I hope that this program can be implemented on a larger scale in the future so even more people can benefit from guaranteed income programs. I hope that it expands to other cities and states as well because it truly is such a wonderful and beneficial concept.
