Most of this isn’t new information, but it is good to know. Discussing this article in the office, we came to the realization that -4* F really isn’t that cold - especially for a city like Pittsburgh, in winter. Temperatures here could easily get that cold, not that I plan on doing any outdoor rigging any time soon. Some of the other information is a bit more common sense. The idea of side loading a shackle, for example, seems simple because – well, it looks wrong. So would attaching shackles together pin to pin. The item that most pertains to us is the use of screw pin shackles, which we use frequently. According to this article, any time we use a screw pin shackle, we should mouse the pin to secure it. This almost never happens. I’m not terribly concerned because most of the time our shackles aren’t being used in situations where vibration causing the pin to come lose would be a concern.
