Gad, Odom, Jr. Join Powerhouse Cast in “Murder on the Orient Express”

www.cmu.edu/news: Nearly two decades after meeting as first-year drama students in the halls of the Purnell Center for the Arts at Carnegie Mellon University, Josh Gad and Leslie Odom, Jr. are performing together professionally for the first time. The 2003 graduates from the School of Drama are playing Hector Macqueen and Dr. Arbuthnot, respectively, in Kenneth Branagh’s reboot of the 1974 film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”

It’s really inspiring to read about the CMU alumni. To see so many successful people working in the industries where I hope to be able to work some day, and see them enjoying themselves so much is amazing. I’m honestly a bit surprised that it’s taken them 14 years to work professionally together, but I’m glad that they seem to have stayed in touch. I remember watching the original Murder on the Orient Express with my family when I was younger and being thrilled by the stunning story and intriguing plot. This whole film seems like it would be a dream if I was in their shoes. To be able to work alongside people whose work you studied as an equal is absolutely mind blowing. I look forward to, and hope for, a lifetime of work like this.

This article gives me the warm fuzzies. It’s hard to think about that we might not cross paths with our peers once we enter the larger entertainment industry. Both Leslie Odom Jr. and Josh Gad are having incredible careers and for them both to have an opportunity to work on the same film production together is just icing on the cake. I also love the quote referencing playground. While I think the reviews for the Murder on the Orient Express revealed that the movie was not as good as the original, most remakes never are. It’s awesome to see two lovely people in the theatre and film industry come together and enjoyably work on a film. I also love that they both revealed that they are still friends although they are apart of different sects of the entertainment industry and had not worked together until today.
